Sheriff J. Adam Shepherd would like to release the following information regarding a high speed pursuit on Hwy 188 and ending on Hwy 60 near Superior, AZ.
On July 10, 2014, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a wrong way driver on Highway 188. The Sheriff’s Office Dispatch notified the Department of Public Safety who issued an attempt to locate the vehicle. Sheriff’s Deputies also responded and observed the vehicle traveling in the center lane on Highway 188. The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, which fled at a high rate of speed in and out of traffic.
A pursuit began and continued on Highway 60. The Deputy was finally able to stop the vehicle on Highway 60 near Superior. The driver, Sabain Robert Winsor, 18 years old of Globe was taken into custody by the Sheriff’s Office Deputies and transported by the Department of Public Safety. One Sheriff’s Office vehicle was damaged during the arrest.
Sabain Winsor, had three warrants out of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office and one out of the Globe Police Department. Winsor is being booked on Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, Endangerment, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Additional charges may follow pending results of the on-going investigation.
